Pedestrian Safety and Accessibility

On November 16, 2010, Vancouver City Council passed a motion requesting City staff, the Vancouver Police Department and the Vancouver School Board to identify locations and “priority measures for improving pedestrian safety and accessibility in Vancouver.”

The West End Residents Association supports this initiative. WERA has long advocated for improvements to Vancouver’s walkability. We fully endorse the Downtown Transportation Plan which gives priority (in theory) to walking as a mode of transportation in Vancouver.

To start the dialogue in the West End, here is a link to some proposals that WERA made in January 2007. We also provide a link to the results of a public open house that took place December 3, 2005 at the West End Community Centre, organized by the West End Integrated Neighbourhood Network (WEINN). Proposals arising from that meeting can be found here.
