Vancouver trash talk is hosting 2 meetings next week for recycling enthusiasts living in West End or Mount Pleasant multi-unit residential buildings.
Come to one of the following meetings in May to learn more about how to start up a food scraps recycling initiative in your own building, meet like minded folks in your community, and share engagement strategies to involve your neighbours in recycling.
Note that free childminding is available, please register as soon as possible.

- Sat May 11, 2013 from 2-3:30pm at Mount Pleasant Neighbourhood House (800 E. Broadway)

Plan directions open houses
Since the planning process launched in April 2012, we’ve received a wide range of feedback from residents, businesses and other stakeholders which has helped shape a set of directions. Drop-in to an open house to learn more about the directions and have your say. Your input will help refine the directions and create a draft plan.

What do you think of the housing issues we have identified in the West End?
Were you unable to attend our housing info session Feb 26th? View our consultation materials under the ‘documents’ tab (vancouver.ca/westendplan), then give us your comments by filling out our questionnaire. Materials provide you with an opportunity to find out more about the housing issues facing the West End, and also what we’ve heard about housing from both the community and the area housing providers. The feedback you provide here will help inform the draft West End Community Plan directions that we will be coming out with April 4, 6, and 9.
The survey is open until March 24, 2013.
These walkshops are part of the West End Community Plan
Attend a “walkshop” and think about how West End laneways could be used in the future, including surface and landscaping treatments, pedestrian facilities, benches, lighting, traffic calming, parking, and infill housing possibilities. Learn about the history and character of the laneways, and observe and discuss how we design these places. The walk will be followed by a workshop where you can share your ideas for laneway improvements.
WERA President, Christine Ackermann, is quoted in this March 4th XtraWest story about the West End Community Plan process:
“I think it’s important to get involved and engaged with city planning for the West End,” says West End Residents Association (WERA) president Christine Ackermann, who attended the session. “Housing, in particular, is such an important issue. It’s good to have diversity at the table.”
But Ackermann says she is aware of community concerns regarding the planning process.
“I have heard [from the community] that the process is very rushed,” she says. “That doesn’t mean that they’re not doing a good job. It’s just difficult with the timeline. Less time for a community means less outreach to the community.”

Amanat Architect has a new proposed project at 1365 Burnaby Street. They are hosting a pre-Development Application Open House.
The project will be a new 6 storey, 21 unit residential rental apartment building.
The open house will be held on Thursday, March 7th, 2013 at the Sandman Suites Vancouver Hotel, 1160 Davie Street, 2nd Floor Meeting Room from 4:00pm to 8:00pm.
