Greetings Gardeners!

First of all I want to thank all of you who showed up at our annual general meeting on March 3rd. At the meeting I informed the gardeners that I will be stepping down as coordinator this year. Although there will be a “garden liaison” for the Mole Hill residents as well as a one for the West End residents we are in the process of distributing the work load that current coordinators do, to a garden committee. This garden committee will help organize work parties, ensure that we meet our responsibilities and obligations to the garden and in general aid our community garden to be the best it can be!
We are entering a time where more than ever we need every bodies help to maintain our garden. Some of our boxes are in need of repair, some of us are not living up to the responsibilities set out by the rules and regulations of the garden and most of all there seems to be a “disconnect” about what belonging to a “community garden” means.
This year we are asking everyone to contribute a minimum of 2 hours a month in doing general community garden duties. This is in addition to the regular responsibilities of caring for individual plot and the area around it. In order to assist in this, different opportunities will be available in order for you to complete your tasks. We are currently working on the details in order to make this as easy as possible for gardeners to contribute to the garden.
This is a positive process and input is encouraged from all gardeners as we proceed with some changes. This is our community garden and in order for it to meet its potential we all need to be involved!

That being said please take note of the following:
On Sunday, March 25th after 12 noon, there will be a spring garden cleanup. Access to the garden shed will be available at that time as well as access to the garbage bins.

If you have a box that needs to be repaired this will be a good time to come out and take care of this much needed task. No one is going to do it for you but you'll have lots of assistance! I invite anyone with a wood saw to bring it on that day as the wood that is available will need to be cut to size.

Also for your information, the city compost will be arriving on the morning of March 28th. Gardeners will have one week to take what they need for their plot, after this the compost will be available to other gardeners outside of the community garden. Don't procrastinate as this could mean you lose out on this free delivery of compost!

I am looking forward to seeing you all at the garden!
Happy gardening,
Mardel
