Green Way Project ready to start this Saturday July 10 at 10 am.

Behind King George Secondary School and the West End Community Centre, a concrete pedestrian walkway runs between a sports field and tennis courts. The athletic spaces are used daily, and the walkway is well-trodden. Right now, the walkway is a corridor bordered by scrawny grass.

Volunteer for this grass roots community project to transform this tied missed used space into a beautiful community art project. Transform public space and yourself, make friends have fun.

Message from the Artist of the Project Glen Andersen:

We are finally getting ready to break ground this weekend at the stone clump pocket by the tennis courts. Area residents have made 30+ pebble mosaics to insert into the new paving scheme there.

First we need to prepare for paving by moving a lot of dirt around. This work isn’t everyone’ cup of tea, but drop by for an hour or more with gloves and a shovel or rake (we’ll have some too) if you like to get your hands dirty, or just pay a visit to encourage us (and bring us tea and cookies).

We start 10:30am Saturday the 10th, and will be there till late afternoon. If we aren’t done, Sunday will be our backup day so let me know if that works better for you.

Please let me know by Thursday night if you intend to come Saturday so we know roughly how many hands to put to work….email is better than phone.

The following weekend July 17/18 is scheduled for paving . So sign up also for the exciting art of “seeded exposed aggregate custom paving”. For this we will need lots of hands. This will be more “fun” and artistic, but what’s not fun when you’re improving your neighbourhood and meeting your neighbours in the spirit of cooperation.

Stay tuned for gardening parties later on.

Please notify any friends you know who are interested but not in this loop or without email. If not sure, let me know you are interested and you’ll be kept in this email list for future work and play.

Thank you for your continued interest! -Glen Andersen

PS: there were 3 mosaics that sustained damage from a wayward car in our storage and we haven’t been able to determine who made them. If you come this Saturday and haven’t already responded to my request to identify them please drop by and we can see if yours is among them, by process of elimination. If no one claims them and some of you still want to make one, its not too late. You can arrange through me to do that next week. Just show up at the end of the afternoon work party on this Saturday and you can take one home to make, with a bit of instruction.
