Mole Hill garden celebrates 10 years

Building the garden, 2002

Ten years ago, a small group of volunteers from the West End Residents Association and the Mole Hill Community Housing Society sacrificed their weekends and evenings to transform the Mole Hill lane way from a typical bleak paved alleyway throughout much of the West End into an oasis of greenery.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Mole Hill Community Garden, a joint venture between WERA and MHCHS. The first food growing allotment community garden in the West End, it has since been joined by gardens at Davie and Burrard, in Nelson Park, in Stanley Park and on the rooftop of St. Paul’s Hospital.
